There are lots of great things to do in and around Melrose, these are just some suggestions to get you started:
Take one of the hikes around Mount Remarkable National Park
Melrose nature hike is a pleasant 4.7km hike through the foothills of Mount Remarkable or the Mount Remarkable summit hike is 12.2km return and provides great views of the Willochra Plain.
Visit the Melrose Heritage Museum to learn about the history of Melrose, the oldest town in the Flinders Ranges. The museum has excellent interactive displays to engage young and old.
Hire a bike
Enjoy a quiet ride along the trail to the showgrounds or test your skills on one of the numerous mountain bike trails. Bikes available to hire from Over the Edge Cafe.
Try out the local food and wines/spirits
Quality meals and Southern Flinders Wines are available for lunch and dinner 7 days a week from the Mount Remarkable Hotel and North Star Hotel, or some of our fabulous local SA produce and grab a breakfast or lunch at Store 54 or Over the Edge Cafe
There are two local wineries in the Southern Flinders Ranges that make fabulous wines in this climate, one is Blesing’s Garden Wines owned by David and Margot Blesing and the other is Bartagunyah Wines owned by Rob and Christine Smart and they are really worth a visit.
If you love your gin, then you must try our very own locally made Flinders Gin , produce by Alby Trotta in Quorn, he makes the London Dry Gin style “Farriers Gin” and a blend made of the Flinders local fruit “Quandong Gin”, a must for gin lovers.
Do some 4 wheel driving
The Bridle Track starts 10 kms from Melrose and provides a great 4wd experience and fantastic views of the Southern Flinders Ranges and Spencer Gulf
